Domaine Villain
Vaulted cellar in Chablis limestone: a solid wood tasting table, Chablis glasses lined up, unlabelled bottles, soft ambient light
Visits & Cellar

Come to the estate, exchange at the source.

Tanguy and Franck Villain welcome wine lovers, independent merchants and sommeliers at 11 rue de la Mairie in Beine. Come and taste our four mineral expressions of the Kimmeridgian limestone, explore the vaulted cave and leave with your bottles.

Macro photograph of a slice of Kimmeridgian limestone from the estate in Beine. Extreme geological density of Exogyra virgula oyster fossils set in grey and blue-white calcareous marl. Cold raking light revealing a chalky, friable mineral texture, deep contrast and documentary geological clarity.

The fossil substrate

The Exogyra virgula, in your glass.

First you taste what the stone left behind: a dry Chablis, where the mineral, saline frame of the Kimmeridgian limestone reads clearly in the glass. Underfoot, the marls of Beine still hold small fossilised oysters, 150 million years old — the raw material of what you drink here.

“Welcome, and enjoy your tasting!”

Welcome at the cellar

A human meeting, without commercial artifice.

A plain, stripped-back tasting in the Domaine Villain cellar. Three clear glasses of white wine lined up on a dressed-stone tasting counter, an open bottle of Chablis village, mineral sediment in the background and soft directional lighting creating an atmosphere of rigour and authenticity.

01 · Tasting at the cellar

The four wines in the glass

We host tastings and direct sales. Our four wines are presented and commented on one by one — Petit Chablis from the limestone plateau, Chablis village, Cuvée Élégance and Premier Cru Beauroy — by Tanguy or Franck, in person.

Austere and spacious interior of the modern stainless-steel cellar adjoining the stone arches of an old Burgundian vaulted cave. French oak barrels lined up on a gravel and polished concrete floor, precise workshop lighting bringing out the working architecture without folklore.

02 · Estate visit

From the vineyards to the vaulted cave

We can show you round the estate: the Beine parcels, the stainless-steel cellar and the vaulted cave where we store our barrels and are creating our new tasting space. The new cellar is being built in the old vaulted cave — we will tell you all about it in person.

Lively documentary atmosphere during an open day in the vaulted cellar of the estate. Growers talking with attentive visitors around a barrel used as a tasting counter. Sober gestures, direct exchange and soft light under the historic vault.
